This Handbook was created as a centralized location where information about NuMundo, our vision and how to use our platform are transparent and publicly available. This is a constant work in progress as we are still growing and adding elements to the NuMundo platform. Please help us to make this handbook better by commenting within articles so we can further expand and clarify information.

# Our Story

[Português](https://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en\&sl=en\&tl=pt\&u=https%3A%2F%2Fhandbook.numundo.org%2Fmore-history.html) | [Español](https://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en\&sl=en\&tl=es\&u=https%3A%2F%2Fhandbook.numundo.org%2Fmore-history.html)

NuMundo was birthed in April 2013 by co-founders David Casey, Erika Logie, Shayna Gladstone, and Jennifer Schmidt. They shared a vision of a network of interlinked “impact centers”. Impact Centers are land based projects that offers individual transformation, regenerative living education and strive to leave a positive local impact. An impact center could be an ecovillage, organic farm, yoga retreat center, or even a hostel, as long as they meet [this criteria](https://numundo.org/about#impactcenter).

NuMundo arose out of a need for better access to information and resources for both travelers and centers. The founder and visionary, David Casey, spent four years traveling to centers in Latin America and realized that there was no centralized channel for people to obtain trustworthy information about these locations and experiences. Over the years, hundreds of people asked him for advice on which places to go, and he understood the clear demand for the NuMundo platform.

David, Erika and Shayna had all helped to run impact centers in the United States and Latin America, and had themselves experienced the challenge of promoting the transformational experiences offered at these centers. They were determined to support these projects by making them more visible and connected through modern web technologies.

NuMundo released the first alpha version of an online platform in December of 2014, which was built using Drupal. We started as a simple directory and have continuously been developing features and strengthening our network, evolving into a booking tool for accommodation, work-trade positions, events, and other experiences at these centers. Our goal is not only to facilitate the experience of educational and transformational travel, but to also support centers by attracting talent and generating resources which will help them increase their local impact.

In 2015, NuMundo was accepted into Startup Chile, a startup accelerator program based in Santiago, Chile. We were given a grant from the Chilean government for $30,000, which enabled us to rebuild the platform using more modern web technologies and create a completely custom interface. During this time, we were fortunate to meet Lukas Sommer, who became our tech lead and technical co-founder. The NuMundo team spent 6 months in Chile, working with local communities, impact centers and projects. We launched a beta version of our platform in June 2015.

After Startup Chile, we created a Crowdfunding campaign on [Indiegogo](https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/numundo-a-network-for-the-new-world#/) in the Fall of 2015. The money that we raised from our crowdfunding campaign enabled us to host a work retreat at [Finca Morpho](https://numundo.org/center/costa-rica/finca-morpho) in Costa Rica in March of 2016. During our work retreat, we built a booking tool to enable travelers to directly book retreats, work trades, volunteer opportunities, and accommodation through the platform. We launched this feature in June of 2016.

Today, we are still keeping the dream alive, working on new features to better serve our network of Impact Centers, event facilitators, and travelers. If you would like to give us feedback on which features you would like to see on the platform, please offer your input on our [Trello board](https://trello.com/invite/b/NuywXNKs/0a1561de31bf6add8ddb2d931bf53af5/numundo-platform-feedback).

# What are Impact Centers, Stays, & Experience?

## What are Impact Centers, Stays & Experience?

[Português](https://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en\&sl=en\&tl=pt\&u=https%3A%2F%2Fhandbook.numundo.org%2Fnumundo-platform%2Fdefinition-of-impact-center-and-experience.html) | [Español](https://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en\&sl=en\&tl=es\&u=https%3A%2F%2Fhandbook.numundo.org%2Fnumundo-platform%2Fdefinition-of-impact-center-and-experience.html)

An impact center is a land based project that offers individual transformation and regenerative living education, and strives to leave a positive local impact.

### An impact center could be an ecovillage, organic farm, yoga retreat center, or even a hostel, as long as they meet the following criteria:

* **Earth Care:** Their emphasis is on the whole-system sustainability and/or holistic health & well-being. (*i.e. A hostel that recycles does not qualify*)
* **Education:** Provides retreats, workshops, courses and/or work-exchange or volunteering. (*i.e. An ecolodge that only offers accommodation without educational experiences does not qualify*)
* **Accommodation:** Has the capacity to host individuals on-site for short or long term stays. The key is the educational engagement on the ground. **(***i.e. an urban community center that doesn't have capacity for hosting individuals does not qualify*)

### We prefer that an impact center also **has 1 of the following values:**

* Commitment to preserve indigenous culture
* Commitment to social impact on surrounding community

### **Typically, an impact center should fit under at least one category of center and at least one category of activity:**

* **Center categories:** retreat center, farm, ecovillage, intentional community, ecolodge, indigenous community, social project, ashram, nature preserve, education center
* **Activity categories:** permaculture, yoga, surfing, sacred medicine, holistic health, social outreach, natural building, medicinal plants, cultural exchange, renewable energy, authentic relating, water systems, tantra, meditation, dance&#x20;

## What is a Stay?

A Stay is an bookable opportunity at the Impact Center. This could be:

* accommodation
* an event
* a work-trade
* miscellaneous items, like shuttles, day trips, tickets.

## What is an Experience?

An experience is essentially a multiple day event. An experience could be a retreat, festival or journey, as long as it offers individual transformation and/or regenerative living education, while striving to also leave a positive local impact. Experiences on NuMundo are usually offered at Impact Centers, but that is not a requirement.

#### **Both Impact Centers and Experiences go through an approval process to make sure that they meet our criteria.** It can be helpful to browse our directory of impact centers and experiences to get a better idea of the kinds of projects that we accept.

Note: if your center offers plant medicine as one of it's primary activities, we have a strict policy that one of our core members or ambassadors must have visited your center before it can be approved. If you are listing an experience whose primary activity is plant medicine, it must be hosted at an already vetted center. If you are a plant medicine center that would like to be vetted by an ambassador, please reach out to Bobby at bobby \[at] numundo.org for next steps.

# Adding a Center

[Português](https://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en\&sl=en\&tl=pt\&u=https%3A%2F%2Fhandbook.numundo.org%2Fnumundo-platform%2Fadding-a-center.html) | [Español](https://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en\&sl=en\&tl=es\&u=https%3A%2F%2Fhandbook.numundo.org%2Fnumundo-platform%2Fadding-a-center.html)

Before beginning the process of adding your center to the directory, please make sure that you have access to your logo and at least 7 high quality photos of your center. Look for photos that show a diversity of subjects, including nature, buildings, people, events, and food.

If you have any issues while uploading your profile, please don't hesitate to reach out to our team at **support \[at] numundo.org.**

## Steps for adding a center:

1. **Login** to your NuMundo profile.
2. **Click the "List Center" button**

   &#x20;at the top right of the page.&#x20;

   ![](https://35699587-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-legacy-files/o/assets%2F-L9tj4LkuoVwx-UAfKdT%2F-L9tj98u9Hdvg27dOfkQ%2F-L9tjD-n7aFBPVLgPIJh%2Flistcenter.png?generation=1523534607401384\&alt=media)
3. **Fill out all the required information.**

   &#x20;We have designed the center form so that it looks very similar to how your center profile will look once published. We hope you enjoy designing your profile by adding beautiful photos, a thorough written description, and as many details as possible, as this will help to attract more visitors. An ideal top profile photo would be 1400px wide x 500px tall.

   ![](https://35699587-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-legacy-files/o/assets%2F-L9tj4LkuoVwx-UAfKdT%2F-L9tj98u9Hdvg27dOfkQ%2F-L9tjD-xKfdeUTg1vJdU%2Fcenter_page.png?generation=1523534597219675\&alt=media)
4. Once you are finished, **hit the "Publish" button**, and your center profile will be sent to our team for approval.&#x20;

   ![](https://35699587-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-legacy-files/o/assets%2F-L9tj4LkuoVwx-UAfKdT%2F-L9tj98u9Hdvg27dOfkQ%2F-L9tjCJzFyUDG6xjSBr5%2Fpublish.png?generation=1523534589672872\&alt=media)
5. After you have published your profile, **select "Return to dashboard"** to [add stays to your center](/numundo-platform/guide-for-centers-and-event-facilitators/adding-stays-to-your-center-profile). This is a **required** part of the process, as it is what enables visitors to automatically book accommodation, work-trades, volunteer positions, and events at your center! Note: one stay is required at a minimum, and that may be a work-trade stay (no money is exchanged hands). If you create a paid stay, you must also add [Payment Settings](/numundo-platform/guide-for-centers-and-event-facilitators/getting-paid) before your center can be approved!

# Adding an Experience

# Embed widgets

[Português](https://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en\&sl=en\&tl=pt\&u=https%3A%2F%2Fhandbook.numundo.org%2Fnumundo-platform%2Fadding-stays-to-your-experience-profile.html) | [Español](https://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en\&sl=en\&tl=es\&u=https%3A%2F%2Fhandbook.numundo.org%2Fnumundo-platform%2Fadding-stays-to-your-experience-profile.html)

(Coming soon) NuMundo Embed Widgets help you share to your center, experience, and related bookable items with the world! You can use your embed widgets on your website, or ask your center's loyal fans to share them as well.

The embed widgets link directly to your center page, experience page, or to the NuMundo checkout for your bookable items.

![Different types of Embed Widgets (From left, Experience, Accommodation, Center, Work-trade)](https://35699587-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-legacy-files/o/assets%2F-L9tj4LkuoVwx-UAfKdT%2F-LMvI7ry-93kzG6M1617%2F-LMvLQkx86oXvD6gQdmH%2FEmbeds.jpg?alt=media\&token=34040be6-8355-4eb6-8868-8b4a00f2e030)

## How to use an embed widget

Start by navigating to your "My Centers & Stays" page or "My Experiences" page in the main drop-down by your name, once you are logged in.

From here, click on "Embed center", "Embed experience", or on the embed symbol on the top right of your bookable items preview.&#x20;

*NOTE: If you don't see these symbols, it is because your center, experience or bookable items are not published and approved, or don't have payment settings.*

![The \</> symbol is where you'll find the embed popup](https://35699587-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-legacy-files/o/assets%2F-L9tj4LkuoVwx-UAfKdT%2F-LMvLl3L5QLEscB785Fj%2F-LMvM88JBSlK2nPQCVHZ%2FEmbed_codes.png?alt=media\&token=add509cf-712c-473e-a13e-67234856bd01)

<br>

![Embed popup](https://35699587-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-legacy-files/o/assets%2F-L9tj4LkuoVwx-UAfKdT%2F-LMvLl3L5QLEscB785Fj%2F-LMvMZ0ANBE3DK5ObYDP%2FEmbed_popup.png?alt=media\&token=a44dc074-613a-4987-9a74-2977cf8419a5)

\
Next, copy the code for your embeddable item. Then navigate to your Wordpress blog, website, or wherever else you want to embed your item, and paste the code either in the "text" or "code" section of Wordpress, or into the code of your website. **You can also send your code to friends and supporters to put on their own website!**

![Pasting the embed code into a Wordpress blog](https://35699587-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-legacy-files/o/assets%2F-L9tj4LkuoVwx-UAfKdT%2F-LMvLl3L5QLEscB785Fj%2F-LMvN9j1GV2Sx2h3sLro%2FEmbed_wordpress.png?alt=media\&token=c6d6a434-6518-41d9-bdf6-9ddd45ed57c3)

# Add a discount code

[Português](https://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en\&sl=en\&tl=pt\&u=https%3A%2F%2Fhandbook.numundo.org%2Fnumundo-platform%2Fpayment-processing.html) | [Español](https://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en\&sl=en\&tl=es\&u=https%3A%2F%2Fhandbook.numundo.org%2Fnumundo-platform%2Fpayment-processing.html)

Discounts codes are a great way to offer exclusive lower rates for your stays on either your Center or Experience profiles. You may want to use these special codes for seasonal discounts, volunteer discounts, or other promotions.&#x20;

![](https://35699587-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-legacy-files/o/assets%2F-L9tj4LkuoVwx-UAfKdT%2F-LM6mYSmkXCWUDbw7q70%2F-LM6nnMARs0pJhRBUkFg%2FDiscount_codes2.png?alt=media\&token=eb9fcb76-ab3a-4372-99cd-617a6fcfb51f)

**To create a discount code:**

1. Click on the dropdown menu by your name on the top right corner of the site, and navigate to "Discount Codes".
2. Click "New discount code".
3. Give your code a name.
4. You may choose a discount code percentage or a fixed discount amount. NOTE: you may not offer 100% discounts at this time.
5. You may choose a period of time for which the discount code is valid, or "no expiry date".
6. You may also choose a useage limit, so the code can only be applied a certain number of times.
7. Apply the code to at least one center or experience profile, and then to at least one stay. If you apply the code to multiple centers or experiences, one code will be created per center or experience. NOTE: You can make multiple codes for the same stay, and market those codes to different customers.&#x20;

   The end customer may only apply one discount code per stay, not multiple.
8. Save your discount code and start sharing it with your customers!

To delete a code, you may do so at anytime from the main Discount Code page, and customers will no longer be able to use that code.

Note: if you decide to duplicate&#x20;

# How Bookings Work

[Português](https://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en\&sl=en\&tl=pt\&u=https%3A%2F%2Fhandbook.numundo.org%2Fnumundo-platform%2Fhow-bookings-work.html) | [Español](https://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en\&sl=en\&tl=es\&u=https%3A%2F%2Fhandbook.numundo.org%2Fnumundo-platform%2Fhow-bookings-work.html)

1. Users will send you a booking request, which you have 96 hours to respond to (unless you have chosen to have bookings auto-approve). If you allow the booking to expire or choose to reject it, the user will receive a full refund.
2. If you choose to accept the booking, the user will be charged in full immediately.

## Tickets with QR Codes

After a traveler purchases a ticket stay item, they have the option to&#x20;

[download a ticket with a QR code](/numundo-platform/guide-for-travelers/download-your-ticket)

&#x20;that can be scanned upon check in. The QR code links to that traveler's booking page on the NuMundo platform, so you can check the status of their payment and reservation. This is our first experiment with allowing QR coded ticketing for events, which we plan on enhancing in the future by allowing the scan of a ticket to mark a ticket as "arrived" or "checked-in".

# Refunding Bookings

[Português](https://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en\&sl=en\&tl=pt\&u=https%3A%2F%2Fhandbook.numundo.org%2Fnumundo-platform%2Frefunding-bookings.html) | [Español](https://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en\&sl=en\&tl=es\&u=https%3A%2F%2Fhandbook.numundo.org%2Fnumundo-platform%2Frefunding-bookings.html)

Please contact us at <support@numundo.org> if you need to refund or cancel a paid booking, providing us full details of the booking (number, guest name, amount, your center or experience profile details). We can process full or partial refunds depending on your cancellation policy.

You cannot refund and cancel paid reservations directly through your NuMundo dashboard at this time. You are still able to cancel work-trade bookings directly through the booking page. We are currently working on additional refund functionality to streamline our system.

# Getting Paid

[Português](https://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en\&sl=en\&tl=pt\&u=https%3A%2F%2Fhandbook.numundo.org%2Fnumundo-platform%2Fpayment-processing.html) | [Español](https://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en\&sl=en\&tl=es\&u=https%3A%2F%2Fhandbook.numundo.org%2Fnumundo-platform%2Fpayment-processing.html)

After you have finished adding stays to your center or experience, please make sure to add information about how you would like to be paid for bookings that come through the NuMundo platform, otherwise your stays (aside from work-trades) will not be publishable.

![](https://35699587-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-legacy-files/o/assets%2F-L9tj4LkuoVwx-UAfKdT%2F-L9tj98u9Hdvg27dOfkQ%2F-L9tjCoW_ZssHl9qTl5o%2FGetting_Paid.png?generation=1523534586601249\&alt=media)

## Options for Getting Paid

**Option 1:** If you have a U.S., Canadian, or Japanese bank account, [Stripe](https://github.com/numundo/numundo-handbook/tree/3b433e5ece7a943c7ecd4a112d8b442d17de7e3f/stripe.com) allows payments to be automatically split between NuMundo and your center’s bank account. This allows you to get paid most quickly. Payments are sent 2-5 days after they are processed, on Mondays.

**Option 2:** For centers without U.S., Canadian, or Japanese bank accounts, we will collect your bank account info securely and send wire transfers 1x/month.

**Option 3:** Deposit model: Users pay 10% via credit card on checkout, which goes to NuMundo, and the other 90% is paid in cash on site. You can also contact the customer to have them pay the rest via Paypal transfer, bank transfer, or other means if you wish.

## How do we process payments?

NuMundo is using the [Stripe API](https://stripe.com/) to securely accept credit card payments. This maintains maximum security for all user payment details.

## **When will I receive my funds?**

If you are using the Stripe payout method, then you will receive your funds 2-5 days from the date of the customer purchase. Payments are grouped together and sent once a week on Mondays.

If you are using the wire transfer method then payments are sent 1x/month.

## **Who can change payment settings?**

Please note, that as of our 2.4.0 release in December 2017, only the Primary Manager for an impact center or experience may edit, delete, or add payment settings. The Primary Manager is the person who created the Center or Experience. If you cannot edit payments settings and need to be made the Primary Manager, please [submit a support ticket](https://numundo.freshdesk.com/support/tickets/new) and include the name of the Center or Experience, your full name, and email address and we can make that change manually for you.

Note: Secondary managers have all the same privileges as Primary managers, with the exception of adding, deleting, or editing Payment Settings.

# NuMundo Booking Fees

[Português](https://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en\&sl=en\&tl=pt\&u=https%3A%2F%2Fhandbook.numundo.org%2Fnumundo-platform%2Fnumundo-fees.html) | [Español](https://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en\&sl=en\&tl=es\&u=https%3A%2F%2Fhandbook.numundo.org%2Fnumundo-platform%2Fnumundo-fees.html)

Booking fees are 10%, and of that fee 2.9% + $.30 per transaction goes to credit card payment processing.

In the case of Stripe payouts for centers with U.S., Canadian, or Japanese bank accounts, an additional .5% of the NuMundo fee goes to Stripe for split payouts.

For all other centers, the wire transfer fee is also deducted from NuMundo’s fee for payouts above $2000. For transfers under $2000, there is a $30 wire transfer fee paid by the center.

So in reality, NuMundo receives closer to **5-6.5%** of the transactions that are processed through the site.

**We ask that all centers agree to charge the same amount on NuMundo as they would elsewhere. By listing a stay with us, you are legally agreeing to this policy as stated in** [**our terms**](https://numundo.org/terms)**.**&#x20;

## **Exclusive Booking Partnership Agreement**

**Responsibility**

While NuMundo will promote this event on social platforms, we are not responsible for reaching a specific amount of sales through our marketing channels. NuMundo decides when the social media posts and newsletter go out before the event.

**Term and Termination**

This agreement will terminate automatically upon completion of the event date, required by this letter of agreement.

**Listing of Experiences:**

NuMundo values your use of the NuMundo Services as a Host to make your Experiences available to our network of Visitors, and aims to provide the best and most comprehensive experience-booking services. To that end, Hosts agree, warrant and represent that they will use best efforts (i) to represent each Experience accurately and completely, and (ii) to offer Experiences at prices no higher than generally advertised or offered on other platforms, services, or media (including those owned or controlled by Host).

**Acceptance of Experience Bookings:**

Experiences booked through the Services are tentative and not binding unless and until the Host accepts (“Accept,”“Acceptance”) the booking. Hosts agree to review Experience bookings and to Accept (or expressly reject) each booking promptly, and in no event more than fourteen (14) days after the initial booking request. Experience bookings that are not Accepted within fourteen (14) days will be deemed void and of no further effect. Visitors acknowledge and agree that Hosts have sole discretion in whether or not to Accept any booking.

**Cancellations, Adjustments & Refunds:**

Visitors may cancel an Experience through the Services at any time, for any reason, subject to the refund policy set forth herein. Prior to Acceptance, Visitors may make adjustments to the booking (including, for example, the date(s) of the Experience), and by doing so, Visitors agree that the original booking will be deemed canceled, and the adjusted booking will be considered for Acceptance.

Refunds will be provided for Visitor cancellation as follows. For Prepaid Experiences, Visitors will receive a refund of the Experience Fee (less the Deposit), if a Visitor cancels such Experience prior to Acceptance. Refunds for Prepaid Experiences canceled after Acceptance are subject to the discretion of the Host and NuMundo. NuMundo will endeavor to refund any amounts due to you within thirty (30) days of cancellation.

Fees are non-refundable except as set forth herein or in the Services. If you dispute any charges, you must let NuMundo know within sixty (60) days after the date that we charge you. If NuMundo terminates your account and use of the Service because you have breached these Terms of Use, you shall not be entitled to the refund of any unused portion of fees or payments (if any). Fees for Matching Services are final and non-refundable.

**Host Payment:**

If you are a Host, NuMundo will endeavor to remit to you the fees described in the Services applicable to an Experience, less NuMundo’s Deposit fee (as agreed by NuMundo and Host, and further described on the Site and in the Services), within five (5) days of Host’s Acceptance of the Experience booking , subject to certain minimum wire transfer requirements described more fully below. Such fees will be paid to Host in accordance with the payment information provided by the Host to NuMundo through the Services, and Host is solely responsible for ensuring such information remains accurate and up to date. Host will be responsible for all taxes in connection with the Experiences (excluding taxes based on NuMundo’s net income). If Host disputes any payments, Host must let NuMundo know within sixty (60) days after the date that NuMundo pays you. NuMundo aims to provide the best and most comprehensive experience-booking services, and values your use of the NuMundo to make your Experiences available to our network of users.

**Third Party Credit Card and Wire Payment Processors:**

NuMundo uses Stripe to securely accept credit card payments from Visitors, and to remit payment directly to Hosts. By using the Services to process payment by credit card, you agree to Stripe’s checkout terms, available at <https://stripe.com/us/checkout/terms> , as may be updated from time to time by Stripe. In situations where Stripe does not support payment in the Host’s location or applicable currency, NuMundo may use a third party wire transfer service to remit payment to the Host in accordance with these Terms of Service. NuMundo will not initiate wire transfer to a Host unless and until Host’s account with NuMundo is credited with $2000 USD or more. Hosts may request wire transfer to be initiated for less than $2000 USD (but at least $10), provided that the fee(s) payable with respect to such wire transfer shall be deducted from Host’s account, or, if no funds remain in Host’s account as a result of the wire transfer, from the amount to be wired to Host.

**Changes and Cancellations**

## Message Inbox

In-platform messaging allows you to send and reply to messages from users of the NuMundo platform, and keep track of them all in one place in your NuMundo inbox.&#x20;

All messages about bookings and any general messages from your Center or Experience profile will all appear in your message inbox. You can sort your messages using the dropdown at the top to see only messages about an individual center or experience profile.

![](https://35699587-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-legacy-files/o/assets%2F-L9tj4LkuoVwx-UAfKdT%2F-LM6iNMe1bpeYpLWSK_a%2F-LM6iQ7sGa4IUdVy1Au3%2FNuMundo%20-%20Messages.png?alt=media\&token=6e3231aa-9fed-4a3a-81f2-079226328a23)

## Message Notifications

You can configure your message notifications for each center or experience profile on the My Centers & Stays page or My Experiences page under "Notification Settings".&#x20;

By default, every manager for a center or experience gets an email whenever an important notification about bookings or messagings is received. You may change that by unchecking the boxes under "Recipients".

![Notification Settings popup](https://35699587-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-legacy-files/o/assets%2F-L9tj4LkuoVwx-UAfKdT%2F-LM6pDUtV45mYNtwHQs-%2F-LM6qGYlyuCADXs2ET-_%2FNotification_settings.png?alt=media\&token=074bdc79-5794-4e12-9076-9a71a7ea82df)

## Message response rate

Your host **response rate** now shows on your center or experience profile (for all messages from September 2018 onwards).&#x20;

It is important to **respond in a timely and consistent manner** to all messages when possible, otherwise users may be discouraged from messaging if your response rate is low.<br>

# Cryptocurrency Basics

[Português](https://www.gitbook.com/book/numundo/numundo-handbook/edit#) | [Español](https://www.gitbook.com/book/numundo/numundo-handbook/edit#)

## **Benefits of using cryptocurrency**

Cryptocurrency is borderless, relatively frictionless, peer-to-peer, and has extremely cheap transactions, offering the world a medium of exchange worthy of the networked 21st century. Compare this to high transaction fees often upwards of 10% fees currently taken by middlemen who do not share the value system of our network. These are banks, credit card processing companies, money transfer and remittance companies, international wire transfer services, and foreign exchange/conversion conversions.

Cryptocurrency is also thousands of times faster than 3-7 day time lags often associated with international payments. Remember the time before email, when we sent letters through the post? Cryptocurrency is “email for money”.

Cryptocurrencies are very different from government-issued currencies in that they are regulated by programmatic code, and not by bankers. Effectively, this means that no human can alter the money supply by printing more money. This protects individuals from inflation often associated with national currencies, notably in Venezuela and Zimbabwe today (two countries quickly adopting cryptocurrency as a way to store value).<br>

## **How to buy cryptocurrency**

You can purchase cryptocurrency with your national currency through regulated exchanges. For Americans, the most common exchange is Coinbase. For Europeans, Kraken is a good solution.

Americans: Register for [Coinbase](https://www.coinbase.com/join/5939c375816b9905e3bd2e62). Use [our signup link](https://www.coinbase.com/join/5939c375816b9905e3bd2e62) to get $10 of free bitcoin! You can purchase common cryptocurrencies by connecting your bank account to your Coinbase account.

Global: Register for [Kraken](https://www.kraken.com/).<br>

**How to use your crypto wallet to send cryptocurrency**

Every wallet has a public key and a private key. A public key is like your email address, which you give out to people so they can send you currency. In order to send someone else cryptocurrency, you need their public key. A Bitcoin wallet can send and receive Bitcoin, and an Ethereum wallet can send and receive Ether and “[Ethereum tokens](https://cointelegraph.com/explained/erc-20-tokens-explained)”. Bitcoin and Ether are two major cryptocurrencies, but there are thousands in circulation today. Always make sure that you send the correct currency to its corresponding wallet. Sending a small test first is a good way to do this.

A private key is like a PIN or a password. Never give this out to anyone, and don't lose it. Keep it in a safe place, like you would store cash. Don't save it directly onto your computer. If anyone gets ahold of it, they can take all your cryptocurrency.

You can also order a [Bitcoin Debit card](https://www.shiftpayments.com/card) to spend your Bitcoin anywhere in the world that accepts Visa.

## Instructions

Upon registering at <https://numundo.leaddyno.com/>, you will be directed to your affiliate dashboard (screenshot below for reference). This will give you access to your referral reports, social media sharing tools, and more. The most important features to look out for on this dashboard are your unique affiliate code and referral link.

Your referral link is essentially the NuMundo URL with your unique affiliate code attached to the end of the web address.

This end piece of code allows us to track your referrals on the backend so it is vital to include this part when sharing [numundo.org](http://numundo.org/) pages, if you want to be rewarded for your efforts.

If you prefer to watch a video demo of the affiliate program, instead of reading this guide, check out our [full video walk-through here.](https://youtu.be/9_zZ-BhGoWs)

## Custom Affiliate Linking

We recommend customizing your affiliate code by clicking "change code" (We suggest using something simple like your name).

By default the dashboard generates the homepage link for you, so if you want to promote a specific experience using your affiliate code, you'll have to take an extra step. You can create a custom referral link by clicking "change URL" on your dashboard and inputting the desired URL.

This will generate a special link with your newly customized affiliate code built in for tracking purposes. You can do this for any link on [numundo.org](http://numundo.org/), or just reset it to the default (homepage) for sharing purposes. Please refer to attached screenshot below for reference.

# Ambassador Role

[Português](https://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en\&sl=en\&tl=pt\&u=https%3A%2F%2Fhandbook.numundo.org%2Fthe-ambassador-role.html) | [Español](https://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en\&sl=en\&tl=es\&u=https%3A%2F%2Fhandbook.numundo.org%2Fthe-ambassador-role.html)

The main purpose of the ambassador role is to be the voice and representation of NuMundo, encourage centers and people to join the movement, and highlight benefits and opportunities for them.

Our ambassadors or NuMundo pollinators perform the following tasks to contribute to the network’s growth:

* **Encourage people to sign up for the platform as a traveler.** They talk to people about NuMundo, share information on social media, and place promotional material in traveler’s hubs and impact centers.
* **Look for, identify, visit, evaluate, recruit and list potential Impact Centers** around the world to join our network.
* **Connect with and onboard impact centers into the network.** This includes phone calls, emails and providing support to the centers in the profile creation process and listing stays. It can Include translations.
* **Blog and share stories** about their own transformation story, projects they visit, and projects of their own that they’re developing. We encourage them to be active in creating and providing content for our blog.
* **Organize local NuMundo-related meetups** in their area, or represent NuMundo at local and regional events, such as conferences and festivals.
* **Maintain fluid communication with the ambassador team** through the Facebook group, mail, surveys and attendance to online training and periodic meetings.
* Ambassadors are also local contacts for the [Pathfinder’s program](https://numundo.org/matching) travelers and link between centers for sharing resources and knowledge.
* Ambassadors could also connect centers to encourage them to share sustainable practices and know- how.

Every Ambassador can potentially perform all these tasks, but it will depend on their training, background, and experience as well capacity and time available to take responsibilities.

# Ambassador Skills

[Português](https://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en\&sl=en\&tl=pt\&u=https%3A%2F%2Fhandbook.numundo.org%2Fambassador-skills.html) | [Español](https://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en\&sl=en\&tl=es\&u=https%3A%2F%2Fhandbook.numundo.org%2Fambassador-skills.html)

There are many skills involved in this role, but the core are the following 5. You can not only display but develop these skills with the support of our staff.

| **Skills**               | **When?**                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                  |
| ------------------------ | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Communication** | Assertiveness is needed while writing the reach out mail and setting the timing for a visit or interview. You could see that persuasion is needed while presenting your suggestions about how NuMundo can benefit the project or impact center. You could also be a Community builder, helping the centers to connect with others and share the know- how. |
| **Leadership** | Getting in touch with new centers and creating events requires a level of confidence. Perseverance is need when centers don’t see the benefits of an online presence or need extra time to work on it. Conviction and empowerment is what keeps you connected to the movement, to the values that NuMundo wants to cultivate. |
| **Strategic Thinking** | An ambassador needs to be able to visualize opportunities, and leads as well of being organized with the tracking of centers and phases of the onboarding process they are in. |
| **Customer Orientation** | Our centers are our customers, building a relation based onEmpathy and Trust is what we want to achieve to be able to support their projects.We have many moments in which we need to be able to assist and collaborate with centers that don't have digital skills, being a Problem Solver for instance. |
| **Sales** | You are the facilitator of the onboarding process, so centers will need your help to visualize what they need and learn about our services and actions towards it. |

## Reaching out (Email template)

Here is an initial email template you can use to contact centers you are interested in visiting, and think would be a good fit for the network. It’s a good place to start, and we really encourage you to put your own spin on this, so your personality shines through.

Most importantly: personalize your email to the center!

Nothing sends an email to the “Trash” folder as quick as a copied and pasted, one-size-fits-all sales email.

Show the center that you’ve researched their offerings, you know the names of their staff, the dates of their upcoming events and the work they are doing in the world. And remember...you are not a salesperson, you are offering a free service to help centers grow!

That’s a pretty cool gift to give, so rock out, be confident and go visit some amazing places!

Check our [Center Outreach- Initial Email](https://docs.google.com/document/d/1_DMFr6LKRPuVuqxKskBFLKFwWsLNSFOlAPVJnUggkWc/edit?usp=sharing) template ( EN-ES- PT) (4)

## Onboarding call (scripts)

This is an [example phone call](https://docs.google.com/document/d/1DJKXkQV4_-ifWM-nbJCJ3O5mUljFKqeTuU-h7wOf4KQ/edit?usp=sharing)(EN- ES) (5) with a center who you think is a good fit for the site, and you’d like to go visit. This script is a framework that includes all the points we want to convey to the center- feel free to add your own flair and personality to it!

Going to visit centers is one of the most fun & meaningful things you can do in your role as an ambassador, so THANK YOU! Get out there, see some inspiring places, make connections and learn- that’s what it’s all about!

## Visit protocol

This protocol is to be used as a preparatory guide and checklist for ambassador visits to Impact Centers. In order to get the most out of each site visit to an impact center, an ambassador should utilize this document. This document is a part of the Ambassador training and Onboarding program, and is expected to evolve.

Before arriving:

* Send [email to impact center (template)](https://docs.google.com/document/d/1qcvnNutTPDvRc8ZY0DJcsvsDfjiI4qKjcCWJKT_vAlc/edit)(6)or arrange phone call to set up visit
* Bring NuMundo flyers and stickers to drop off at Impact Center

On-Site:

* Sit down with a founder/manager and [conduct an impact center interview](https://docs.google.com/document/d/17853MYSbUf5MeUtFhML-A_GSqfkOLq_NKcGP0jak-9Y/edit?usp=sharing)(7)
* Sit down with a founder/manager and create or improve their impact center profile on NuMundo.org
* Take quality photos of Impact Center(some ambassadors have a professional camera - DSLR, etc. and these photos are even more valuable. However iPhone photos will also be useful!)
* Make a social media post at the Impact Center (communicate with <katia@numundo.org> to get it circulated on NuMundo social media)
* Speak with on-site guests and volunteers as much as possible and tell them about NuMundo - if possible, arrange a 10-20 minute presentation to a group on-site in a community space
* Drop off NuMundo flyers/stickers at impact center

Post-Visit:

* Optional:Write a blog article about the visit to the center and include photos
* Follow up with your Impact Center 1 week after visit to ask if they are enjoying using the site, and to let them know you are available for any questions. (For questions you cannot answer, feel free to direct them to <bobby@numundo.org>)

## Interview guideline

While you are at an Impact Center, organize to sit down and have a formal chat with the owner, manager, or person who deals with online management (website, social media, bookings). Be sure that the person who deals with volunteer positions, events management and/or booking overnight stays is also present. This interview can also be done by phone.

Conducting [this interview](https://docs.google.com/document/d/17853MYSbUf5MeUtFhML-A_GSqfkOLq_NKcGP0jak-9Y/edit?usp=sharing) is crucial when visiting or talking on the phone, it help us to acknowledge the center’s problems, their interactions, needs and feedback about the NuMundo platform, and to develop relationships and trust with our customers. Identifying pain points and needs are the highest priority in this meeting.

Take notes on your conversation, as they will be used the create their profile. You can send us insights and feedbacks and the status of your Onboarding process.

If there is time, this is also the moment when you will set up their center profile, and add any stays (retreats, workshops, volunteer positions, etc) that the center has. You will walk the manager through the process of creating their profile or give the guidelines for them to create their profile (see below “Profile creation and listing guideline for center managers, DIY).

## Booking System Details

From the results of your interview and your research on the center, you should have a good idea of what “Stays” the center has to upload to their profile. Below is an overview of our booking system . Please familiarize yourself with how it works so you can answer any center questions

!Uploading bookings is an essential part of making our platform useful to travelers, turning dreams to actuality and allowing transformational experiences to happen

# Impact Centers and Onboarding Process

## Impact Centers and Onboarding process

### What is an impact center? How to identify potential?

To be able to understand our Onboarding process, first we need to get around the concept of Impact center. We define it as a land based project that offers individual transformation, regenerative living education and strives to leave a positive local impact. An impact center could be an ecovillage, organic farm, yoga retreat center, biodiversity conservation project or even a hostel, as long as they meet the criteria:

* Earth Care: Their emphasis is on the whole-system sustainability and/or holistic health & well- being.
* Education: Provides retreats, workshops, courses and/or work-exchange or volunteering.
* Accommodation: Has the capacity to host individuals on- site for short or long term stays, the key is the educational engagement on the ground.

For example; "Pueblos Mancomunados" in Oaxaca is an alliance of 8 autonomous indigenous villages that have an ecotourism company called "Expediciones Sierra Norte". They have adobe-built lodges in each village, and their guides took us from village to village, explaining the plant life, the culture, history, and significant sites along the way. This could be classify as a (large!) impact center, because they are providing educational engagement and accommodation (not to mention home-grown food from their own farms!). If it's a homestay without the educational component, it's easy to define as not an impact center. If it's just a nature tour, it's a bit of a stretch, but if there is some cultural education involved (local native plants, history, food, etc.), especially related to local indigenous techniques of self-sufficiency and survival, then I'd say let's go for it full force.You could also find projects related to social justice, biodiversity conservation, permaculture, sisterhood, gender equality, animal sanctuary, etc. If they are able to provide stays, do educational work, and or show alternatives ways of sustainable - regenerational living to their communities, then they are in!

### The Onboarding process

As you know now, one of the main tasks that the ambassador performs is the Onboarding of centers. This is one of the favorite positions, because it allows you to travel, connect to projects, build your own network, and the satisfaction of giving guidance to a center and learn from their different realities.

In this section we are going to learn more about the details and phases of the Onboarding process; how you approach a center, how is the flow; and what are the tools available for me to do it.

To start you need to know that NuMundo has been built in 2 stages; the first one was more like a directory of centers, where the projects could create the center profile and get the visibility from the platform. NuMundo now has accomplished the second stage of the project; launching the booking tool, so there are currently 2 types of centers in the platform:

1. Centers that have only a center profile
2. Centers that have the center profile and stays or/ and events listed and ready to be booked

The objectives that the Onboarding process pursue in this moment is to bring more centers to the platform and inform and help to the centers that have only the center profile to list their events, courses, work trade, volunteer positions and stays.

Only when the center lists experiences, travelers will be able to book through the platform, and this center will contribute with the NuMundo project sustainability. So, it is really important to encourage that that all the centers to have their profile complete, including the listing.

The center profile creation and listing is free so they get visibility from day one; only when a booking happens, the credit card and administrative fee apply.

## The Onboarding flow:

The process of Onboarding can be perceived as a circular flow and include several steps. We pursue the creation of a relationship of trust between center and the representative (Ambassador) from the moment of the first contact to the feedback and follow up. You will be the link between their needs and the solutions that NuMundo and the network can offer, and therefore achieve mutual growth.

![](https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/NLQxutnzK8A96RvKMuIyKE4hmCtnrd_8RvYkxc1gskbAuGxzCoKQIkJHTYmvFd9RhM37jAuHLpWduhjluG3beDVsDxsYFEnR_C1-ad0CefWKay0d97VxPRCZ0ojLyx-8xzlo4SZj)

1. **Research:** Research the center you plan to onboard or the lead that has been assigned to you, make sure they fulfill the requirements, look for information online, on social media, comment in their FB, like and/or share their post if you feel like, read their blog, etc.It is a good way to kick things off, make your name be familiar to them and show them you know who they are and you care about what they are doing.
2. **Connect:** One of the things that will determine the way of approaching, is if you know this project and if you are or not in the area. You can call them up, write a follow up mail, or set a visit. Below you will find templates you can use and personalize according the situation. This step is critical, and will be crucial to prepare the call and visit.

**Here are some tips that have worked for us:**

* **Design a framework:** While studying this guide, you also may want to write your own script or summary. The important thing is that you understand the steps and visualize the optimal flow, so you can inspire the centers to move forward. At this stage, you can prepare questions for each center based on needs / struggles that you identify.
* **Create the right mindset:** Be confident in yourself, open, friendly and helpful. When you open a conversation, be careful; respect the space of the other, and above all listen.
* **Leave plenty of time:** I actually feel guilty about writing this point, because sometimes we want to make good use of the time and try to visit as many centers as we can when we are traveling. But assuming that everyone has the time to talk to a stranger, or have the connection to reply to an email within a certain time, or engage with a long conversation on the phone with the daily administrative and field work is just something we need to be flexible about. So, this is about perseverance building the relationship, trust and spaces. When that happens, you connect and help, it is worth the wait.
* **Listen:** and ask, this is the formula to be able to identify the struggles and connect.

You can Practice the Art of Compassionate Questioning and listening that we review in the guide [Sales, Skills training for free spirits](https://docs.google.com/document/d/1ZtoGflvETyrfHYU_C4g6GSh97CvCFJyYoMp9uNi04UA/edit?usp=sharing)(1).

A good enrollment conversation requires depth, and you need time to connect and go deep. You also need to leave enough time at the end to propose your services if it turns out they are a fit. Same if you visit, so you know everything is related.

1. **Guidance:** After you connect, ask, listen, you may know a lot more about the needs and struggles that the center is facing. To be able to help and visualize solutions, you need to know the products and the benefits that belonging to NuMundo and its network is going to offer them.This charity will help you to map solutions and alternatives, if in some moment you don’t remember the details or you have certain doubts about the information, you can always take notes and send a mail later to the center after asking the ambassador team for support.
2. **Onboarding:** Profile Creation and listing, this phase is about giving guidance regarding the setup of the profile and the listing, this include stays, work trade positions, events, etc. The level of guidance that you will give exclusively depends of the digital skills that the center’s manager or owner has, since the website is pretty intuitive. The idea is that they will able to administrate the profile after you help them to set it up, so it will be good if you can work on it while you visit. Otherwise, you can ask them to work on the information, and set it up on the phone or by mail, the process is longer this way but it gives you some time to check and work in an attractive redaction, photo edition and translation. We are encouraging to set the profile in Spanish as well, that way we can reach latino American travelers and centers.

You can practice in <https://staging.numundo.org/>and check the information that is neededProfile creation and listing [guideline for center profile and listing](https://docs.google.com/document/d/1xOXyJFGojmnoXirFJPPdWK9CNL96owmrGmNv2hdUvbs/edit?usp=sharing)(2) (EN) and in[Spanish](https://docs.google.com/document/d/1kTAnjryOEDFCdcCciYUAoKIdBK9zlBiRvQZ2T49jt1A/edit?usp=sharing)(3)

1. Resources: After you set the profile or when you are making the follow up or recontact them, you can also share additional information that can be related to their current needs:
2. NuMundo [Amplify your impact Packages](https://numundo.org/amplify-your-impact)
3. NuMundo [badges](http://cdn.numundo.org/downloads/badges/numundo-badge-selection.zip)(website link buttons)
4. NuMundo Promotions
5. NuMundo Blog post
6. Information regarding NuMundo centers that share the same interest or pain
7. Additional from your own resources and Networking

You also can ask the center manager if they are willing to contribute with information regarding their path as center’s founder - manager, NuMundo’s blog, [Transformational Times](http://www.transformational-times.com) would like to begin using our media outlet as an open source platform of knowledge sharing between Impact Centers.

If they want to contribute with their knowledge, and write or give interviews about specific topics for community, project or land regeneration, you can write the information down in the [Center Founder Blog Contributors](https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1yJ4Py4V7RAt7tP8Cpuo63STXVfUhXjaYusQdkpRIePE/edit?usp=sharing).

1. Feedback: We believe that no process is finished without learning. In this case, the experience from our user, below you will find the forms to upload and report of your experience and the center’s owner’s perception.You can also tell us about the training material and the space of support you found in the core team. Without feedback, we really don’t know if the effort is working, what we need to improve, etc. So please don’t hesitate to send us a report of your connections or if you find opportunities for improvement.
2. Follow up: Yep, this is real friendship, it could be a plant too. The thing is that if you don't give attention or you don't water your plant, the relationship will be hard to maintain alive. So yes, when we onboard, we keep checking on the center and their advances, we also want to know their perception, experience, if they have received visitors through NuMundo, etc. That way we keep learning about their need and how we can help them and connect them to resources. So please keep an eye on them and keep us in the loop too

Thank you for taking the time to learn about NuMundo's Ambassador Program! You are a pivotal part of this ecosystem! If you have any questions or feel like we left something out, please contact <david@numundo.org> or your Regional Ambassador.
